An Umno MP claimed the plot to oust Johor Menteri Besar Khaled Nordin as alleged by Shukur Mohamad, son of the Johor state legislative assembly speaker, is merely an attention-seeking stunt.
"It was just to get media attention and glamour," said Sekijang MP Anuar Abd Manap who downplayed the plot.
He added there was no need to entertain such rumours.
"No need to be bothered and don't waste time on this matter; we would do better to focus on strengthening Johor Umno," he said.
Yesterday, Shukur took to Facebook, claiming that there was a movement to oust Khaled as the Johor menteri besar.
Shukur claimed the movement was being led by a deputy minister from Johor.
Khaled, together with Johor state assembly speaker Mohamad Aziz, are seen as not being aligned with Prime Minister and Umno president Najib Abdul Razak.
Johor Umno had been plagued by discontent after Najib removed Muhyiddin Yassin as deputy prime minister and suspended him as Umno deputy president.
Muhyiddin, who was Johor menteri besar for almost nine years, was removed after he repeatedly questioned Najib's handling of the 1MDB scandal.
