Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has hailed government plans to rotate 50 officers in sensitive posts across the civil service internally or to other agencies and ministries.

The anti-graft body views the announcement by chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa as a positive move to inculcate a culture of integrity among public servants.

"The rotation of posts and transfer of officers to other divisions within originating agencies, or to other agencies, was one of the recommendations made by MACC... in providing inspection and consultation services to improve work procedures and systems (in organisations).

"The implementation of the post rotation system will help reduce the chances of exposure to graft and abuse of power," MACC said in a statement today.

MACC added that it had also discussed the recommendation for a post rotation system among enforcement agencies in 2015.

The anti-graft body also said that it will discuss with Ali and the Public Service Department at length on how to implement the plan.

MACC opined that the move, if implemented effectively throughout the civil service, will help reduce and minimise the space for graft to occur and will improve good governance and prevent leakages.

It hopes that government department and service chiefs will take the necessary action to obey the circular on post rotation when there is need, to transfer an officer internally or to other agencies.

"The support and commitment of agency and department chiefs is very essential," read the anti-graft body's statement.

The MACC was referring to recent news report quoting Ali who revealed the plan to start rotating 50 government officials in sensitive posts internally or to other agencies or ministries, starting from this month.
