Maxis Bhd today announced that all its principal One plan customers will be given 3GB data free of charge next week and apologises for unequal treatment to its customers in response to social media backlash pertaining to its data plan.
Chief executive officer Morten Lundal said while Maxis was developing its new plan, some individual customers were offered special tailored plans, which angered the majority of its customers for being unfair and not transparent.
"Lately our call centre and social media have been alive with many negative opinions on Maxis. Of course this has concerned us," he said on Maxis' Facebook Page via the Live service today.
He said Maxis had always been focused on offering unique products that excite people, and as the markets have moved on recently, there was a focus on providing more data.
"We have been preparing our own offerings but we have taken too much time because we wanted to add more great features than just more data," he said.
Maxis also announced its plan to automatically upgrade all of its MaxisOne plan customers to higher data quotas without any additional cost and this will be launched next month.
In the video, head of consumer business, Dushyanthan Vaithiyanathan said MaxisOne customers with 1GB plan will move to 5GB and customers with 3GB plan will be upgraded to 8GB.
"Unlike many other new plans in the market, we are not limiting these benefits to new customers but to all MaxisOne customers.
"In addition to these quota upgrades, we will also be announcing further innovations that will enable our customers to do a lot more with their data on our network," he said, adding similar changes would also be done for MaxisOne Business customers.
