Minister: LGBT linked to mental disorder, HIV/Aids

Tan Kim Keong: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom must be the laughing stock of Prime Minister Najib Razak's cabinet. He is an embarrassment to his Muslim community too.

He must have conducted a longitudinal research, as well as a scientific one too, on the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) among the Muslim community in Malaysia and concluded that these individuals have mental disorder and hence the cause of HIV/Aids.

Now that's the standard of intellect among most of the cabinet members.

The Analyser: There must be some pretty brilliant open-minded research conducted by "the government". And some even more brilliant, more open-minded ministers to accept what they are told without question.

Here are some questions that come to mind. What is the incidence of HIV in the lesbian community? How does the rate of HIV in the gay community compare with that in the heterosexual community?

What is there that is common to lesbians, gay men, bisexual people and transgender people that warrants that you should publicly vilify them whilst turning a blind eye to some of the most awful abuses of the human race by those who profess the religion you represent?

What evidence do you have to declare that the members of the LGBT community have a greater level of mental disorder than, say, your average religion-obsessed Islamic fundamentalists?

Are these people suffering from a similar form of paranoid schizophrenia that has plagued a certain Islamic role model? Or are they simply depressed by having to deal with people like yourself?

Anonymous #19098644: Jamil Khir is the one who is mentally ill. HIV has got nothing to do LGBT individuals, it is a disease spread through blood and bodily fluids and affects all segments of society.

He should be sent to Tanjong Rambutan to observe and understand mental disorders so that he won't be so mentally retarded to say that mental illness is linked to a person's sexual preferences.

Indeed, the ones who are mentally ill are the Islamic State (IS) and terrorists who kill without qualms their own religious brethren and anyone who doesn't share the same false beliefs as they do.

Rick Teo: My goodness, how does this man become a minister? Such a stupid statement coming from the minister must surely attract a lot of international condemnation.

I would like to know what studies the government has done for Jamil Khir to come to a conclusion that there is correlation between LGBT community and Aids and mental disorder?

This minister is drawing his own conclusion from thin air and what he says has no intellectual and research basis.

We only know that there are people who are born with that kind of inclination and it has nothing to do with any connoted vices. This minister is so stupid that he should simply resign.

SteveOh: Jamil Khir's comments are very unnecessary and hateful, and he shows a lack of competence in answering simple questions in Parliament.

He could have said, "The government does not support the lifestyle and concepts of the LGBT community and is concerned about the social problems attached to LGBT activities, including the spread of Aids, etc."

Why slam it as a mental disorder and hurt people who are already struggling with their dilemma? If the minister thinks it is a mental disorder, what is his government doing about it? What help is it giving those suffering from the disorder?

Incidentally, transgenders should not be lumped in with lesbians and gays. Transgenders are not homosexuals. They should be in a separate category.

Kazakh: Now it is confirmed beyond any doubt that Jamil Khir is an ‘otak karat’ of the first order.

The very reason the LBGT are exposed to all their perceived social ills is not because of their sexuality, but is because of our bigoted high and mighty society's refusal to acknowledge their problem as something that is biological rather than social or mental.

FairMind: This is 2016 and we still have people with such mentality as our minister? He should go back to the cave where he belongs.

Hang Babeuf: The minister is himself a sad case of diseased thinking. Yet those who are unable to think clearly wish to lead and guide others.

It is just fantasy, delusion and arrogance. An exercise in folly that can only end badly.

Alfanso: Jamil Khir, go get an education. It is enough that you have made it with the New Economic Policy (NEP) and apple-polishing Umno, but life is different for others. They have to work hard without NEP and Umno.

More so for the LGBT community. You must be a moron to demean them.

Banyak Bodoh: Jamil Khir deserves a Nobel Prize for discovering that LGBT in the Muslim community are being afflicted by a mental disorder.
