A young woman, who admitted early this week to having an affair with Kem Sokha, vice-president of a major Cambodian opposition party and lawmaker, has sued him for breach of trust and demanded a compensation of US$300,000 (about RM1.17 million), reports China’s Xinhua news agency.

In her complaint filed to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday, a copy of which was released to the media on Saturday, 25-year-old hairdresser Khom Chandaraty, who is better known by her nickname Srey Mom, said that Kem Sokha had promised to give her US$3,000 (RM11,700), to buy her a house and to open her a shop in exchange for sex, but he had never honoured his promises.

“His behavior has damaged my reputation and dignity, wasted my time, deprived me of job, and cost my family economy,” Xinhua quoted her as saying in the complaint.

She requested the court to punish Kem Sokha, deputy leader of the main opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party, in accordance with the law and demanded a compensation of US$$300,000 from him.

The alleged sex scandal between Srey Mom and Kem Sokha came to light in late February when leaked audio clips of telephone conversation between them went viral on the Internet. In the clips, they discussed sex, pregnancy and paying for an apartment.

According to Xinhua , since the scandal broke out, Kem Sokha has not publicly commented on the veracity of the audio recordings. Instead, he advised his supporters not to respond to provocations.
