Four Umno elected representatives have won a defamation suit against Penang executive councillor Dr Afif Bahardin (photo above) over a land sale allegation in 2014.

The four are Penang opposition leader Jahara Hamid (Teluk Air Tawar), Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor (Sungai Dua), Omar Abdul Hamid (Permatang Berangan), and Tasek Gelugor MP Shabudin Yahya.

High Court Judicial Commissioner Lim Chong Fong ordered Afif to pay RM320,000 in total to the four plaintiffs.

Afif was not asked to apologise or retract his remarks but Lim dismissed his counter-claim against the four.

"We will be appealing the case. My legal counsel will review several technicalities in the case that we are not satisfied with," Afif, who is PKR Youth national deputy chief, told Malaysiakini.

Senior lawyer CV Prabakharan acted for Afif, while Azmer Mohd Saad was counsel for the plaintiffs.

Afif, who is also Seberang Jaya assemblyperson, had accused the four of malpractice over the sale of land belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base in Butterworth.

Jahara and her colleagues had denied the allegations and demanded an apology and retraction of the accusation from Afif.

Afif had allegedly accused the four of selling the land to their cronies during a 'reformasi' event in Seberang Jaya on April 17, 2014.

Jahara and the other nine BN state elected representatives have expressed their objection to the proposed integrated development of the RMAF site.

It is learnt that TSR Capital Bhd obtained the approval of the federal government to discuss the proposed terms for the relocation of the RMAF base through a land switch.
