Shockwaves were felt throughout the nation when Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his long-time nemesis, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, sat at the same table to ink the Citizens' Declaration.

The declaration aims to remove Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and save Malaysia from the latter's alleged misdeeds and abuse of power.

But now, an Umno lawmaker noted how DAP had backstabbed the former premier in its campaign for the Sarawak state election.

However, Bung Moktar Radin said he had expected DAP to do this for its own political interests.

The Kinabatangan MP was referring to a DAP flyer which claimed that while Mahathir came into power promising a "clean, efficient and trustworthy" government, billions were lost during his tenure.

"From the onset, I have been saying that Mahathir has been trapped in the opposition's dirty game. DAP is known for its unethical and double-standard politics," he told the BN Backbenchers Club website.

"If the issue favours them, the individual will be considered good even if in reality it is otherwise. But if the issue is unfavourable to them, it will be considered wrong and and they will combat it all out," he said.

Therefore, Bung urged all leaders to wake up from their dream and DAP's rhetoric to reject the leadership of Lim and his son Guan Eng.

"I am not only saying this to Mahathir but to all leaders to realise and accept the fact that DAP is playing up all sorts of sentiments just to rule this country.

"DAP will use all channels and methods to achieve this goal," he added.

Bung also asked if it was worthwhile for Mahathir to join hands with the opposition, especially DAP, to topple the prime minister.

He questioned if this is how DAP repays the former premier by accepting him with regard to the Citizens’ Declaration, but insulting him at the same time.
