The new minimum wage of RM1,000 for Peninsular Malaysia and RM920 for Labuan, Sabah and Sarawak to be implemented from July 1, will be revised in the next two years.

Deputy Human Resource Minister Ismail Abdul Muttalib said the review was necessary to ensure that the pay received was appropriate and remained relevant with changing times.

"After two years, we will sit down together with employers, workers, and the government through the National Wage Coordination Committee to discuss on the wage revision," said Ismail, after visiting Maran parliamentary constituency today.

Ismail, who is also Maran MP, added that the implementation of minimum wage was always conducted in a fair manner with the involvement of all parties to reach a unanimous decision.

Ismail reminded employers to comply with the new minimum wage starting this July and urged workers to lodge a report with the authorities if they were not paid the minimum wage.

"Employers found guilty can be fined RM20,000 or face five years in prison and fined RM1,000 a day if they continue to commit the offence," he added.
