Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali today said that high demands for affordable housing projects offered under the Selangorku scheme is an endorsement to success of the state’s housing policies.

Among others, he said the state government has set a target to provide 15,000 units of affordable housing for low and middle-income earners over the next three years - at a price of not exceeding RM250,000 per unit.

These projects, Azmin added, are targeted at “strategic locations” in urban areas across Selangor.

“Our policy is clear. We want developers to focus on urban areas so that home owners can benefit from the public transportation system in order to get around.

“We also want to discourage the use of personal vehicles that contributes to increased congestion on the roads,” said the Gombak MP at a press conference after launching Selangorku’s latest affordable housing project in Subang Bestari.

Earlier in his speech, Azmin said the state government is closely monitoring all developers to ensure that projects are being completed on schedule and meeting the need of home owners.

“I don’t want them (developers) to build 'pigeon hole' houses and sell it off to the people.

“These are not just places (for families) to build a household but it (the projects) should create communities of the future,” he said.

The two 16-storey apartment buildings - Sri Aduria and Sri Musytari - will be developed by Worldwide Holdings Berhad, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

While there were only 388 units available, the project has attracted up to 5,000 prospective buyers - with incomes ranging from RM3,000 to RM10,000 - who stood in line from as early as 8.30am at the launch event today.

The registration process by the Selangor Land and Housing Board was supposed to go on until 1pm but it was announced at around 11.30am that all available numbers have been taken up.

The units are priced at RM150,000 for a 800 sq ft unit and RM220,000 for a 1,000 sq ft unit.

Also present at the event were Worldwide Holdings CEO Norazlina Zakaria, PKNS CEO Azlan Md Alifiah and Shah Alam mayor Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad.
