Kedah PAS opposition leader Amiruddin Hamzah has resigned from his post as Kuala Kedah chief.

Amiruddin declined to give any reason for his resignation.

Speculation is rife that Amiruddin will also quit his state opposition leader's post soon.

It is believed that he may be unhappy with the latest developments in PAS, which recently announced the sacking of its vice-president Husam Musa for publicly criticising the party.

Parti Amanah Negara vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa had predicted that there will be more "shake-ups" in PAS following Husam's sacking.

However, when asked if he quit his Kuala Kedah chief post due to Husam's case, Amiruddin merely said "No".

Asked if he would also be quitting his state opposition leader post, Amiruddin replied: "Please refer to the statement that has been sent out."

In a brief statement, PAS Kedah commissioner Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurazi said the party took note of Amiruddin's decision to quit his post.

Ahmad claimed that the Anak Bukit assemblyperson will remain as state opposition leader, a post he held since 2013, after BN recaptured the state from PAS.

Ahmad said Amiruddin will also continue to stay as Kedah PAS Development Complex chairperson.

This task was given to him by the PAS Kedah information body, Ahmad added.

"Amiruddin will continue to serve PAS, the party administration will continue to be carried out by the acting chairperson as stated in the party's constitution," Ahmad said.

"We urge all PAS members to focus on doing work that will bring us close to the people and to continue fighting for their rights with full dedication," he added.
