Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali today insisted that there have always been ongoing discussions with PAS in the state, including for the upcoming Sungai Besar by-election.

"I am inviting them (PAS) to a discussion. We must be inclusive," said the PKR deputy president after repeatedly quizzed over his invitation for all opposition parties to close ranks against BN.

Pressed further, Azmin reiterated that the discussions are always ongoing, citing presence of PAS elected representatives at the state-government event held in Dewan Seri Bernam, Sabak Bernam.

"Until doomsday," he said when asked how long will the discussions with PAS continue.

Azmin's invitation, first made in the aftermath of Pakatan Harapan's devastating loss in the Sarawak election, was perceived as an offer for PAS to rejoin the federal opposition coalition after it severed ties with DAP.

Opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, however, yesterday clarified that Azmin's invitation was made in his personal capacity as Selangor menteri besar and not on behalf of PKR or Harapan.

Both PAS and its splinter party Amanah have indicated intentions to contest in Sungai Besar against BN.

PAS had contested the seat as part of Pakatan Rakyat during the 13th general election in 2013.

Asked on the possible three-cornered fights, Azmin said it is a challenge which must be accepted by all leaders.

"We have the same goal among all opposition parties – to save Malaysia and push for reforms – so I am confident we can find a meeting point," he said in repeating his call for all opposition parties to close ranks against BN.

"I urge all parties to set aside individual or partisan interests, work together and fight BN on a common principle," he said.

On Pakatan Harapan's candidate, Azmin said no final decision has been made so far.

"A candidate against BN," he said when asked if PKR would be the party to field its candidate.

PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali had previously confirmed that the party will only enter into a discussion with PKR, including for the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections.

PAS had also contested and lost the Kuala Kangsar seat in GE13.

The party is expected to discuss matters related to the two by-elections at its meeting tonight.
