Kedah Menteri Besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah is confident that his prayers for cooperation between PAS and Umno will become a reality eventually.

He said this is especially possible in Kedah, where PAS and Umno are on very good terms.

"As an old guard, I always pray for cooperation between PAS and Umno. In today's political scenario, I'm confident that Umno and PAS are heading in that direction.

"I think the Kedah PAS leadership also feels that way. They know and can see what's going on with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and what he's saying.

"Maybe one day, the time will come to do something, depending on the political situation. I'm confident it will happen," Ahmad Bashah said in an interview with Utusan Malaysia.

He said this when asked about expanding PAS-Umno ties before the 14th general election.

Currently, he said there's nothing going on besides close ties at the moment, which should not be sullied.

"We can't make statements that will harm the situation. That's the hope of both the leadership of both parties."

He also said that Umno does not want to see PAS die.

"PAS has strong support in Kedah because the hardcore supporters are still in this state.

"The voters love PAS, that's why when PAS parted ways with DAP, they were happier," he added.

Ahmad Bashah also said that Kedah PAS had more respect for him than his predecessor Mukhriz Mahathir, as he had known them longer.

This, he said, made it easier for him to do his work as menteri besar.

"In Kedah, even though we are of different political parties, we still go for their kenduri. I even invited them to my child's wedding reception and they came.

"So we only fight in politics, but in terms of friendship we respect one another," he said.
