Anwar sends letter from prison, rips apart Citizens’ Declaration

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim sent a letter to party leaders cautioning them against the Citizens’ Declaration, which he says is a “flawed” document that only advances the interest of former prime minister and his nemesis Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The eight-page handwritten letter scathingly condemns leaders who are now “enamoured” by Mahathir. The letter, which is not dated, throws the declaration under the bus.

PKR leaders are at odds about the letter – vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin denying its existence and secretary-general Rafizi Ramli confirming its veracity.

This comes as former minister Zaid Ibrahim, who hosted the first meeting that led to the Citizens' Declaration, flayed Mahathir for urging straight fights in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections on June 18.

Zaid condemned Mahathir for urging Pakatan Harapan to let PAS face BN, to raise chances of BN’s defeat. Zaid said this is because PAS allegedly has close ties with Umno.

Umno sec-gen: Mukhriz, Muhyiddin must be sacked

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor said he will recommend that former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir and former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin be sacked from the party.

Both have been campaigning against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, alongside Mahathir, as part of the Citizens’ Declaration group, after being removed from their government posts.

Tengku Adnan and Cheras Umno chief Syed Ali Alhabshee also said Mahathir’s remark on the by-elections makes it clear that Mahathir is anti-Umno and anti-BN.

Saudi prince says US$681 donation ‘a domestic issue’ for Malaysia

Saudi’s Prince Sultan Abdulaziz, son of King Salman, declined to explain further on the US$681 million donation received by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, purportedly from the Saudi royal family.

He says it is a domestic issue that Malaysia can resolve, but stressed the kingdom “has never given money to upset existing political regime”.

Activist Hishamuddin Rais escaped jail when the Federal Court overturned a High Court sentence of nine months imprisonment on Hishamuddin for sedition. He is instead fined RM5,000 for calling for the toppling of the BN government.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and wife Rosmah Mansor settled their defamation suit against Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming, over a Facebook posting allegedly accusing Rosmah of attending a cabinet meeting.
