PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has declined to share her views on the eight-page letter penned by her husband, jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
Met by reporters at the Parliament lobby this morning, the Permatang Pauh MP said the letter was an internal party matter.
"That's an internal matter, an internal matter," she replied when asked to confirm if the letter was authentic.
However, when quizzed if PKR would cease working with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad on the Citizens’ Declaration, she replied: "He (Anwar) didn't say that, right?"
When pointed out that the letter emphasised the need to be careful, she replied, "Waspada (cautious). That's it."
The opposition leader was also quizzed if action would be taken against deputy president Azmin Ali, but she shot back at the reporter even before the question could be completed.
"Who said this?" she asked, and when the reporter replied that it was she who was asking about the possibility of action being taken, the PKR president said, "Don't put words in my mouth. Thank you. It's an internal matter."
Following this, Wan Azizah rushed to her car.
It has been speculated that PKR is divided on the Citizens’ Declaration at present, with Azmin appearing to back Mahathir and is often seen accompanying the former prime minister at such events.
In the handwritten letter addressed to PKR leaders, Anwar had described the Citizens’ Declaration as a Mahathir document in principle, and devoid of the reform agenda.
He also cautioned PKR leaders on the dangers of working with the former PM.
