Despite an imminent sacking, suspended Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin said today he has never received any show-cause letter from the party for any alleged misconduct.

In a statement, the Pagoh MP said he has also never been officially informed of any alleged breach of party discipline, nor called by the Umno disciplinary committee to explain himself.

"The statement by Umno secretary-general (Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor) that the disciplinary committee's report against me is ready to be tabled at the next Umno supreme council meeting shows that the allegations on breaching party discipline were done without going through due process.

"It also contravenes Article 20.1 of the Umno constitution," Muhyiddin said.

He was responding to Tengku Adnan, who on Monday said he would recommend that both Muhyiddin and former Kedah menteri besar Muhkriz Mahathir be sacked from the party.

Muhyiddin and Mukhriz have been fierce critics of Umno president and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, supporting calls for his resignation over alleged financial mismanagement.

Commenting further, Muhyiddin said he was personally involved in the setting-up of Umno’s disciplinary committee, as chairperson of the committee to amend the party’s constitution in 2000.

“The spirit of setting-up an independent disciplinary committee was based on the principle to ensure that all members who were made to face it will be given fair treatment and accorded the right to defend themselves, in line with universal human rights.

“Ironically, if what the Umno secretary-general said is true, in my own case as the party’s No. 2, this spirit and principle of setting-up the disciplinary committee have been breached,” he said.

Muhyiddin also insisted that all his criticisms against Najib were done to warn Umno leaders against “dangers” ahead, unless steps were taken to restore the public’s faith in Umno and the government.

“It would be very unfortunate if my actions to save Umno were perceived as going against party’s discipline,” he added.

Muhyiddin has been suspended from Umno since Feb 26, after being dropped as deputy prime minister and education minister in July last year.
