PKR deputy president Azmin Ali was evasive today, when asked about Anwar Ibrahim's letter warning the party of working with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"I agree with PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail that this is an internal matter, we don't need to discuss this outside," Azmin told reporters in Sungai Besar today.

When asked if he trusted Mahathir, the Selangor Menteri Besar ignored the question and replied: "Thank you."

In the letter made public on Monday, Anwar (photo) had lamented that some PKR leaders were in cahoots with Mahathir and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin who were elitist and staunch defenders of cronyism.

He warned that working with them could derail PKR's struggles.

Anwar also lamented that while Azmin and PKR vice-president Tian Chua were authorised to negotiate on the Citizens' Declaration, it had turned out to be a flawed Mahathir document.

Azmin however defended the declaration, saying the opposition and NGO leaders had managed to put in reform agendas in it.

"This has been well received by the public, and we will continue to receive public support."

The declaration has reportedly been signed by more than one million people since it was launched two months ago.
