Dr Mahathir Mohamad appears to be changing his stand on a daily basis, according to Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein

He pointed out how the former premier previously said BN would lose in the by-elections, but later claimed that the opposition would be defeated in the polls.

"I don't understand what is the actual narrative or his stand. It changes everyday," said the defence minister.

"However, what is important is that our machinery needs to move, and our candidates win (in the by-elections) and are accepted by the people of Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar," he told a press conference at the Parliament lobby.

Last week, Mahathir urged the opposition to be united in order to defeat BN in the June 18 by-elections.

Yesterday, the former premier said a fractured opposition cannot win.
