A DAP lawmaker has urged Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia to take action against Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said over her alleged controversial remark on 1MDB report.

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said he had referred Azalina to Parliament's Privileges and Rights Committee yesterday, citing Article 80(2) of the Standing Order.

Lim alleged that the minister had lied to Parliament and the people by claiming that Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chief Hasan Arifin had notified the members about the expunged lines in the 1MDB report tabled on April 7.

"She's not only trying to influence the people and the Parliament ... this is a violation of the parliamentary standing order.

"Thus, she should be referred to the privileges and rights committee as soon as possible for further action," he said.

Azalina, in her parliamentary reply, had said that Hasan received Bank Negara's information which stated all the information given was "confidential for the purpose of intelligence only for court usage or public report".

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua also alleged that Azalina lied, but the minister denied having done so.

'Attempt to confuse public'

In an immediate response, Azalina lambasted Lim as another DAP MP allegedly trying to confuse the public with inaccurate facts, adding that all has been explained to the speaker.

"The Segambut YB wants to refer me to the Rights and Privileges Committee for supposedly trying to mislead the House. I have written a letter to the Dewan Rakyat speaker to provide an explanation with regard to the matter," she wrote in a statement.

Azalina added that she had also addressed the matter similarly yesterday, when another DAP lawmaker, Tony Pua, accused her of lying.

"How can the DAP MP accuse a member of the Executive of lying whereas I am not a part of the PAC. PAC members are made up of BN and opposition MPs. PAC is a committee formed under Standing Order 77 (1).

There are no Executive representatives in PAC as it is an independent and impartial committee," she explained.

Azalina also said that Lim's action was unprofessional as her answer before this was based on the information given from the PAC secretariat.
"If I as the representative of the Executive is accused of lying, indirectly, he is creating the impression that the PAC secretariat lied too.

"I must stress that there is no need for me to have done so, I am only the minister charged with answering matters related to Parliament," she concluded.
