Amidst rumours of overtures from PKR, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has denied any negotiations between the two parties, ahead of the upcoming twin by-elections.

"There have never been any discussions (with PKR). If there was any, for sure we would know.

"So far, we have not received any confirmation about the matter (discussion with PKR). We only knew (about the reported overtures) when it went viral through WhatsApp, with no confirmation from PAS.

"If it was true, let the party president shares his views," Takiyuddin told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Asked again whether there were discussions between PKR and PAS, the Kota Baru MP reiterated there have been no formal negotiations.

"There have never been any (formal) negotiation, but meetings, I don't know. But there is no formal negotiation between PAS and PKR," he said.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has yesterday similarly denied meeting with PKR deputy president Azmin Ali to discuss the two upcoming by-elections.

This is following reported speculations that Azmin is trying to broker a deal with PAS to stand down in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar polls on June 18, to allow PKR candidates to contest under the Pakatan Harapan banner.

This is to avoid split votes in the three-cornered fight in the seats won by Barisan Nasional in the 2013 general election.

The Star today quoted sources who claimed that Azmin had issued the three PAS excos in Selangor with an ultimatum – resign from the state government if the party insists on fielding its candidate against BN in Sungai Besar.

The same article also quoted Hadi as having instructed the three leaders to remain in their posts.

Asked for comment, Takiyuddin said he was unaware of the matter and urged all parties to not speculate.

"I cannot confirm whether it (the ultimatum) was a threat or not because I am unsure if it is even genuine.

"We cannot speculate. If it's true, it must came directly from Azmi, or the menteri besar's office. My office did not receive anything," he added.

Instant noodle negotiations

Separately, PAS Youth chief Nik Mohamed Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz in a Facebook posting urged all quarters to respect the party's right to reject any form of "instant noodle" negotiations aimed at taking away seats it had contested during the 2013 general election.

Nik Abduh also said that PAS is still hurting from "past wounds" that cannot be healed overnight.

"I respect Anwar Ibrahim's 'hurt' (feelings) towards (former premier) Dr Mahathir (Mohamad). Anyone can say, close the old stories.

"But it is the art of friendship, the art of negotiations, respect the rightful owner before showing your stripes," he said, without mentioning any names.

During the 13th general election, PAS candidate in Sungai Besar Mohamed Salleh Husin lost to the late Noriah Kasnon with only 399 votes.
