Penang PKR Youth division leaders want the party to take disciplinary action against those who leaked a letter by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim addressed to party leaders.

The eight-page handwritten letter by the jailed Anwar criticised the Citizens' Declaration and the cooperation with former Umno president Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Leaking this letter to the media is an irresponsible act and a betrayal to the party.

“As a grassroots member, I urge the top leadership to find out which senior leader is responsible for exposing party secrets to the media and public?

“It is a breach of discipline and sabotaging party strategy,” Permatang Pauh division leader Amir Ghazali said in a statement.

Permatang Pauh is also party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s parliamentary constituency and Anwar’s stronghold.

The statement was released to the media via the office of PKR Youth deputy chief Dr Afif Bahardin.

Afif’s office also released a separate statement by Tasek Gelugor PKR Youth chief Mohd Radzi Idrus who echoed calls for disciplinary action.

“The leak has inadvertently smeared the party’s image and is sabotage,” he said.

Rift between different factions

Earlier, former minister and Citizens' Declaration stalwart Zaid Ibrahim said the leak exposed a rift between different factions of PKR.

PKR continued to be rocked by troubles following a leaked WhatsApp message from party secretary-general Rafizi Ramli saying there are complaints that Selangor government officials requested "money and women" during negotiations.

The message appeared to be posted in a WhatsApp group called ‘Solidarity Untuk Anwar’.

Rafizi said he cannot deny or confirm the veracity of the message, while Selangor Menteri Besar and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said it is a systematic smear campaign.
