Students’ group Gerakan Mahasiswa Amarah (GeMA) has urged voters in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar constituencies to cast spoilt votes or refrain from voting in the coming by-elections as a protest against the antics of BN and the opposition.

According to GeMA spokesperson Wafiuddin Rosli, members of the public, including undergraduates, have lost faith in the BN government and in the opposition as well, due to the number of crises.

"Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar voters should spoil their votes by putting an exclamation mark on their ballots.

"The voters should not come out to vote. They should adopt more Ramadan practices during the by-elections," Wafiuddin said at a press conference alongside several other GeMA representatives at the entrance to the Parliament building today.

The by-elections would be an ideal platform to urge parties from both sides of the divide to practise politics in a correct manner, the GeMA spokesperson added.

BN and the opposition slammed

“The BN government has failed to practise ‘accountability, answerability and transparency’, which are attributes used to rate if a government has practised good governance or not,” Waifuddin said.

He also said the BN, which is led by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, has been tarnished by the RM2.6 billion donation issue.

Opposition parties were also criticised, with Wafiuddin saying these parties are not the best alternative to replace BN because they have failed to solve the internal squabbles among them, with the component parties remaining as a divided group.

“The rakyat have seen how they (the opposition parties) have acted insincerely with one another in their quest to replace BN.

“The opposition is more keen to prolong its squabbles and is not shy to sensationalise these matters in front of the public.”

If BN and the opposition are unable to solve their respective crisis and problems, GeMA would not hesitate to continue its ‘protest vote’ campaign till the 14th general election, Waifuddin added.
