PAS Youth has dismissed the claim that the Islamic party wants to merge with its traditional political rival Umno, describing such speculation as baseless and slanderous.

The wing’s chief, Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz, pointed out that PAS has been consistent in opposing certain issues.

“Good things will be supported, wrong things will be opposed,” said the Pasir Mas lawmaker in his keynote address at the PAS Youth muktamar in Kota Baru today.

Nik Abduh noted how while PAS supported the government’s effort to strengthen the Syariah Courts, it also objected to the goods and services tax (GST), Dual Language Programme and the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA).

“This is the concept of 'Ta'awun Siyasi' (aiding fellow Muslims towards goodness) carried out by PAS,” he said.

Furthermore, the son of the venerated late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said the Youth wing is committed to championing a brand of politics, which offered solutions based on Islam.

“PAS must not only be seen as an opposition party which only knows how to criticise the government.

“The people wish to see what solutions can be offered to resolve the problems,” he added.

Nik Abduh stressed that in their criticism towards government policies, the wing would ensure that each media statement or memorandum contained solutions as well.

He said such an approach would be in line with Islamic principles and placed the people above all else.

“All concepts, policies and programmes have been forwarded in the Welfare State Document, the Green Document (on economic matters) and the election manifesto,” he added.
