Amanah nominates physicist for K Kangsar polls

Physicist Termizi Ramli was picked by Parti Amanah Negara as its candidate for the Kuala Kangsar by-election.

Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said he was confident PKR and DAP will mobilise their machinery to campaign for Amanah in the Perak parliamentary seat.

He added the issue of PKR needing to take care of the sensitivities of PAS only applied in Selangor but was confident that PKR grassroots will assist Amanah in the Kuala Kangsar contest.

Hadi charts new direction for PAS

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang raised eyebrows when he held a giant keris at its muktamar (general assembly), a practice not seen in the past and is more synonymous with Umno.

At the muktamar, Hadi gave a glimpse of PAS' future direction, stating that the Islamic party will not oppose all government policies as some of them are good.

For example, Abdul Hadi pointed out that PAS worked with BN in order to move a motion for leave to table his Hudud Bill in Parliament.

Abdul Hadi also said the proposal by PAS Muslimat to sever ties with PKR will be studied.

Serial paedophile strikes KL

The country was rocked by claims that suspected paedophile Richard Huckle abused up to 200 children in Malaysia after he was slapped with 91 charges by UK authorities.

Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Azizah Mohd Dun said she was unaware of the matter but will work to identify the victims to help them.

DAP's Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching questioned how these incidents escaped police radar while PKR questioned if there are other undiscovered abuses.

Federal Territories Deputy Minister Loga Bala Mohan said it was the National Anti-Drugs Agency which rounded up the homeless and dumped them outside the city and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) merely provided logistical assistance.

The Federal Court in a landmark decision recognised sexual harassment cases even though there were no laws dealing with the offence.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng denied the state government had recognised the rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) community.

Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam said probe is under way to determine the cause of death of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's son-in-law Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi after undergoing dental surgery.
