Police have taken statements from several individuals to facilitate investigations into the death of Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi, the son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who died while receiving treatment at a dental clinic in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh Ishar Singh said the police have recorded statements from the clinic staff and other individuals as well.

"The cause of death has not yet been determined and police are still in the process of obtaining the autopsy report from the hospital," Amar Singh said when contacted today.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 304 of the Penal Code for causing death.

Syed Alman Zain, 44, was the husband of Ahmad Zahid's eldest daughter, Nurulhidayah, 37.

He had gone to the clinic about 6pm for treatment, together with a friend, before he was reported to have fallen unconscious.

According to a family member, he was then rushed to the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) where he was confirmed dead.
