K KANGSAR POLLS Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein is confident Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mastura Mohd Yazid can continue her late husband, Wan Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad's legacy as the Kuala Kangsar Member of Parliament.

Hishammuddin, who is also an Umno vice-president, said BN was confident Mastura understood her husband's principles and efforts, and more importantly, she was known to the local voters.

"She is the best candidate. She is not alien to the people in Kuala Kangsar. I believe the voters are also confident of her.

"And we hope this mood will be sustained until polling day," he told reporters at a friendly gathering with BN machinery at the Bukit Chandan district voting centre (PDM) yesterday.

Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir and Mastura's four children, namely, Wan Emir Astar, Wan Imar Izzat, Wan Iskandar and Wan Muhammad Ammar.

Commenting on the possibility of a four-cornered fight at the Kuala Kangsar Parliamentary by-election, Hishammuddin said it was not an issue to BN.

On the other hand, he reminded the BN machinery to move in a focused manner and avoid from creating problems within the machinery.

"Three-cornered, four-cornered is not our estimation. Whatever the problems of the opposition are theirs.

He added that the situation of the candidate who was in mourning should also not be used as an issue because it was a temporary situation.

"It's new but it's not strange. It is not that she cannot come out forever. It is also not a yardstick to measure her service to the voters later. Her children are also helping a lot. Now what is important is that we help to ensure she wins," he said.

Meanwhile, at the ceremony, other than meeting with more than 100 BN machinery members at the Bukit Chandan PDM, Hishammuddin also chaired a meeting with members of the PDM.
