The hailstorm which occurred in several areas in Kuala Lumpur and in Selangor on Friday, were nothing unusual, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Madius Tangau.
He said it could occur when there was a strong thunderstorm and when the cumulonimbi clouds (the main source of the formation of thunderstorms) reached a height of 40,000 feet.
"When the temperature goes below freezing point, the rain drops become ice lumps sized 1.5cm, about the size of a marble," he said in a statement yesterday.
