PAS has brushed off speculation by certain quarters that it will deliberately lose the twin by-elections.

Its president Abdul Hadi Awang said the party would go all out to fight BN's candidates in both Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar.

"It is DAP (and Pakatan Harapan) that gave way to BN by fielding candidates, which could split the votes for PAS," he said at the Kuala Kangsar by-election nomination centre.

"DAP should realise that the party that can fight BN is PAS, not Amanah. So, why is DAP supporting Amanah?" he queried.

PAS contesting in both by-elections, he said, should be read as PAS not giving way to BN.

Hadi was responding to a question where some doubted if PAS is serious in contesting the by-elections.

When asked if PAS will give Umno an easy win, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said earlier today that everyone has an answer for that.

At a press conference later, PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad slammed Lim for not being a mature statesman.

The Bukit Gantang parliamentarian claimed that the more DAP attacked PAS, the more they will scare away the Malays.

They will never hold any power, be it at the federal level or Perak when they do this, he added.

Echoing Hadi’s comment, he likened the multi-cornered fight to giving Umno an edge in winning.

He also said that a vote for the Amanah candidates in Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar is a vote for DAP.
