Parti Amanah Negara's Azhar Abdul Shukur will visit paddy farmers this morning.

In Kuala Kangsar, PAS' Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad will visit government agencies and community leaders.

His rival, Amanah's Ahmad Termizi Ramli, will distribute leaflets at Jalan Kangsar, a Chinese majority area.

Amanah says its K Kangsar man endorsed by Citizens’ Declaration

11pm Kg Sayong Lembah, Kuala Kangsar Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu today revealed that the party’s candidate for the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seat – Ahmad Termizi Ramli – was endorsed by the Citizens’ Declaration group.

Admitting that many candidates were initially considered including him, discussions with NGOs, however, found that they wanted a candidate who was not a former PAS member to go against PAS.

“So I thought about it and then we found a local guy who has the brains and who joined Amanah when it was formed in September last year.

“When I submitted his name, they (NGOs) unanimously said he’s the best candidate for Kuala Kangsar,” Mohamad told a ceramah in Kuala Kangsar tonight.

And this, he explained, was how Termizi was chosen as the party’s candidate for the constituency.

“He is also considered as the Citizens’ Declaration candidate,” added Mohamad.

Mystery paragliders come under police probe

6.30pm K KANGSAR POLLS The police are investigating an incident when two paragliders hovered near the Dewan Jubli Perak, where the nomination for the Kuala Kangsar by-election took place yesterday.

"A police report was lodged about two paragliders hovering near the nomination centre,” said Perak Police Contigent  spokeperson for the Kuala Kangsar by-election, ACP Shaharon Anuar Abdul Latif.

"The case is being investigated under Civil Aviation Regulation (CAR) 2016," he said.

An initial investigation showed the Department of Civil Aviation did not give any permission for the paraglider to fly there, he added.

'Amanah must show Pakatan Harapan a well-functioning coalition'

3.30pm Sungai Besar: Amanah information chief Khalid Samad reiterates that the main issue surrounding its decision to contest the by-election is not whether the party is fighting with PAS or vice-versa.

Khalid says Amanah is the party representing Pakatan Harapan and it is important for it to be seen as a well-functioning coalition.

"This is important because the main message is that after Pakatan Rakyat was disbanded, the pub kid's hope can be realised through Pakatan Harapan," he says, adding that there will be daily joint press conferences by leaders of all three parties.

During the press conference at Amanah's office, party strategic director Dzulkefly Ahmad elicits laughter from those present when he accidentally refers to Pakatan Rakyat instead of Pakatan Harapan, before PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar corrects him.

Khalid later also makes the same mistake and Nurul Izzah jokes that it is because Pakatan Rakyat has been around for some time.

No gag order, says Amanah candidate Ahmad Termizi

12.45PM: Kuala Kangsar Town Amanah candidate Ahmad Termizi Ramli denies his party has imposed a gag order on him.

He is responding to media queries following allegations his campaign team has prohibited the media from asking him questions. Apparently, requests for interviews were also turned down.

They only allowed the media to speak to him about his thoughts and feelings after the walkabout, and not on other issues.

"Basically, we want to be safe," explains Ahmad Termizi, who is a nuclear physicist.

"In the Malay culture, it is like a bridegroom who is not supposed to say anything bad, only sweet things," he added.

According to the campaign team, Ahmad Termizi may hold his first official press conference, with party president Mohamad Sabu, tomorrow.

Warm reception for Amanah's candidate in walkabout

12.30PM: Kuala Kangsar Amanah's Kuala Kangsar candidate Ahmad Termizi Ramli, with his bright and sunny smile, is warmly received by the people during his walkabout in the township.

This is despite Amanah being just an an eight-month old party.

A woman tells him: "You take care of us, we take care of you."

"We take care of the country," replies Ahmad Termizi.

He brings up price hikes and the 1MDB fiasco to persuade voters to support him.

He chats with a retired man on price hikes.

"Has the price of anything dropped?” asks the man.

"Price goes up, but not quite so the salary," replies Ahmad Termizi.

"Kencing turun," quips the man before leaving.

Ahmad Termizi later tells the press that the response from the people is so overwhelming he won't be surprised if he wins.

"It will be a huge victory. When I went to the market, I felt 95 percent accepts us," he adds.

Jalan Kangsar is a Chinese majority polling district where the PAS candidate won 62.7 percent votes in the last general election.

PAS downplays perception of friendly ties with BN

12PM: Sungai Besar PAS seeks to downplay what its leaders describes as a "perception" of friendly ties with Umno-BN.

During a press conference at its operation centre, Selangor commissioner Iskandar Samad implies that it is ridiculous to suggest PAS will form a "unity government" with Umno.

"To say that PAS will form a unity government with Umno is like saying Hari Raya will come tomorrow," he quips.

The Selangor exco says this in clarifying a photo of the two party leaders sharing the same table during nominations for the by-election yesterday.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man similarly says sharing the photograph is like taking a cheap shot at PAS.

"We want to bring a political culture based on reality and not perception.

"This is not an issue for PAS but sometimes if we don't clarify it, the wrong things will be shared repeatedly online," he stresses.

Media annoyed by Amanah candidate's late arrival

11.40am: Kuala Kangsar  Amanah’s Kuala Kangsar candidate Ahmad Termizi Ramli annoys members of the media when he arrives at the walkabout venue two hours late.

He is supposed to arrive at Jalan Kangsar for a walkabout by 10am, but turns up late due to a poster shoot.

His campaign aide apologises to the journalists present.

Upon arrival, Termizi said that he has many things to say to the media, but bound by his party's orders, he cannot do so.

"The concept of (us campaigning in the by-election) is that we are the bridegroom," he says.

Focus on education and economic status

10.20am: Sungai Besar Improving access to education and the economic status of the people will be the focus of the BN candidate for the Sungai Besar parliamentary by-election, Budiman Mohd Zohdi, if he is elected, reports Bernama.

These two factors, he said, would serve as catalysts in the development of the
constituency which has spectacular, lush green paddy fields and village life that are so appealing to local and foreign tourists.

"We in Sungai Besar do not require a huge shopping mall, we do not want to change the landscape, let the atmosphere of the village be maintained," Budiman said.

"We do want the people to have wide knowledge, to be able at the same time to think and generate income from existing resources."

Salleh dares Dr M to repeat 1MDB allegations

9.11am: Minister Salleh Said Keruak challenges former prime miister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to repeat 1MDB allegations during the campaign.

“Mahathir said Prime Minister Najib Razak has stolen at least RM42 billion and maybe even as much as RM50 billion of 1MDB’s money.

“I challenge Mahathir to repeat this allegation during his campaign in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar, since he has never withdrawn that allegation or apologised for making the allegation,” writes the minister on his blog.

Salleh also taunts Amanah over the Hudud Bill, saying the party is trapped in a dilemma and hence will avoid talking about it during the campaign.

“Amanah cannot afford to declare that it opposes the syariah amendment and neither can it declare support.

“So Amanah is terkepit (caught) in a situation that does not allow it any leeway,” he writes.

Kit Siang: Sg Besar third most marginal seat for Umno

8.11am: Sungai Besar - DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang says the seat will be an uphill battle for Harapan.

“Am I wasting my time in Sekinchan and Sungai Besar and should I just call it a day after 50 years in politics? After all, I am not getting any younger - already past 75 years old.

“It will be very difficult and uphill battle - in fact a political “miracle” - for the Amanah and Pakatan Harapan candidate, Azhar Shukor, to win in the Sungai Besar by-election on June 18,” Lim says in his speech in Sekinchan last night.

However he notes the seat is the third most marginal and unsafe seat Umno won in the 13th GE.
