Southern Thailand was rocked by several bomb blasts today, a day before Muslims in the province celebrate the month of Ramadan.

No one was injured.

Pattani police chief Maj-Gen Phongsak Wangsupa said the first explosion which occurred at 6.30am in Panarek badly damaged the district's educational centre building.

The second bomb which was placed outside the building exploded two hours later, when security officials were checking the first incident, he said.

"No injuries were reported in both incidents," he told reporters in Pattani today, adding that another bomb blast had occurred in the Mayo province.

Phongsak said the police also received a report on a fire at the Kawat administration centre about 1pm.
