Police questioned PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil today over his colleague's statement on the cops' removal of #BebasAnwar billboards in Selangor.

"The police were trying to ascertain whether the statement from Lee Khai Loon was disseminated through the party's Facebook page," Fahmi told Malaysiakini today, after he was questioned by police at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters.

He said among the questions they asked were his duties as the party's communications director, the chain of command, and how the Machang Bubok assemblyperson's press statement was distributed.

The questioning started at about 12.30pm and ended 45 minutes later at 1.15pm, he said.

Lee was being investigated under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 and was called in for questioning on March 29.

This was over a statement he released on March 22, where he alleged the police were being used as a "tool" by certain quarters.

Lee had called them "unprofessional" in taking down the billboards in Selangor and made unflattering remarks about the force.

The billboards were seized by police when Umno leader Jamal Md Yunos threatened to burn them down, but Lee claimed no action had been taken against him.

Fahmi said investigating Lee under the Sedition Act was an act of intimidation.

"I see this as an act of intimidation, mostly because I think politicians have the right to comment about things that they see happening in the country, which was what Lee was doing," he said.

He also said he found out the investigations stemmed from a report a police officer had lodged in Penang.

The report lodged was based on an article from online portal MyNewsHub, which carried the headline 'PDRM Samseng Berlesen! - PKR' (Police are licensed thugs! - PKR).

When questioned by the police, those at the online portal had said the statement originated from PKR's Facebook page, said Fahmi.
