Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali has questioned which school Langkawi lawmaker Nawawi Ahmad attended since he appears to have no knowledge regarding the concept of taxation.

“Check which school he went to. Ibrahim Ali wants to know which school he went to because he does not know about the concept of taxation,” he told a press conference.

The Perkasa president was commenting on Nawawi’s statement that it was the government, and not the people, who paid the salaries of MPs.

However, Ibrahim said the government paid the salaries of MPs from the tax it collected from citizens.

“Who said their salaries are not the people’s money? Ask the Langkawi MP where the government gets the money from.

“The government gets money from taxes, so it means everything is the people’s money,” he added.

Ibrahim said this at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur on his book - 'The Misunderstood Man' - which is also available in Bahasa Malaysia under the title 'Perjuangan Tanpa Nokhtah'.

Despite brickbats over his controversy-courting remarks in a Facebook posting, Nawawi stood by his statement.

He said technically speaking, it was the government and not the people that paid the salaries of MPs.

He said that once tax is paid, the money belongs to the government and not the taxpayer.

"I will not retract, instead I will fight," he posted in a reply to a comment asking for a retraction.

Nawawi added that he would not retract what he considered to be a valid point he made about the matter of accounting, during a conversation with another user on Facebook.

What more, he said, it was a private argument between him and another.
