Hotel Adya Langkawi, a hotel owned by the Kedah state government via Pemodalan Kedah Berhad, has the distinction of becoming the first hotel in Malaysia to create the post of religious officer.
The hotel’s chairperson, Nor Saidi Nanyan, said a Syariah Law graduate from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (Usim) had been appointed to fill the post.
“We have appointed a hafiz (one who has memorised the Quran) so as to strengthen Islamic values in this hotel,” he told reporters after a breaking of the Ramadan fast event hosted by the hotel last night.
Nor Saidi, who is also Kuah assemblyperson, said the four-star hotel was recognised as fully syariah compliant by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department last year.
“We wanted to go even further, hence the appointment of a religious officerso that we keep staying on track,” he added.
