No one to blame for NSC Act fast-track but Dr M

YOURSAY | 'Did he ever guess it would turn out this way, now that he's on the other side of the fence?'

Ideas: Failure to reject NSC law a dark chapter in history

Anonymous 1890491455255851: The biggest problem is that they are using all these Acts not to fight terrorism as they proclaim, but to bully and scare government critics.

The NSC, the Official Secrets Act (OSA), etc, have so far been used to shield the powers-that-be from being investigated for highly questionable activities and abuse of power.

No right-minded Malaysian is going to believe that their main aim is to deal with terrorism because it seems like their definition of terrorism includes anyone and anybody who speaks out against the government.

I hope all these Acts will one day go against these people who have been recklessly corrupt and incompetent.

Vmsians: Clause 4(a) Article 66 is a creature of former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's making.

The rulers now need to be 'more alert' than usual, as parliamentary convention has now been thrown out of the window. Now it’s Umno conventions at work in the Dewan.

6th Generation Immigrant: While Malaysians (rulers, opposition and loyal citizens of the constitutional Malaysia) are flabbergasted with this outcome, we must all (including all of us who support the Citizens' Declaration) raise this issue with the man responsible for enacting the dastardly Clause 4(a) Article 66 in the constitution.

Did he ever guess that it would turn out this way, now that he is on the other side of the fence?

That’s why Malaysians had been against him when we questioned most laws he had amended and enacted. Does he now see his follies of the yesteryears? He created the laws to allow monsters to exploit to the hilt.

Has he a solution to clean up this mess he has made of our federal constitution?

Kingfisher: The general acquiescence, if not apathy, to the passing of this NSC legislation is quite disturbing considering that criticism of the legislation by only a few prominent Malaysians and especially from the opposition parties.

As ordinary Malaysians are generally not conversant with the intricate aspects of the conflict or concurrence of a proposed or passed legislation with the constitution, it could be productive for concerned parties, including the government, to educate the public on the finer points on relevant matters.

Always Praying: How PM Najib Razak deals with the 1MDB issue shows his character.

What he can do with the National Security Council (NSC) Act, God help us. BN lawmakers who voted for it will be condemned by the future generations.

Anonymous_1423626825: The Conference of Rulers should sit and seriously look into this matter and state their stand.

Anonymous _7469036733201s: Let us wait and see the response from foreign investors and foreign stock market players. They will be the barometer for the NSC.

Then either we rejoice or crumble to dust and vanish into thin air.

The Analyser: For 58 years of the "dark and sinister" book of Malaysian governance, Malaysians have sat back and neglected their democratic responsibilities to the extent that their rights no longer exist.

Do you really think they will do anything now about the NSC Act? What is worse is that nobody seems particularly disturbed by anything except money. A classic example of Malaysian negligence is this hudud farce which we are now revisiting for the nth time.

In any normal democratic nation, the whole country, whether Muslim or not, would be in uproar about the barbaric nature of those punishments. Political parties would unite against the possibility of hudud's introduction and the whole idea would be squashed for all time.

Anonymous_40f4: This has happened due to the stupidity, ignorance and the selfishness of the people who keep voting for BN/Umno Baru and the 'tidak apa' (couldn't care less) attitude of the people.

It's a matter of time Malaysia under Najib will be bankrupt like Venezuela, but then it would be too late.

Ninety percent of the people don't care about things happening in the country. They are busy making money and are ignorant of the problems the country is facing.

After all the billions of public money stolen by the kleptocrats, many in the public have still not heard about 1MDB or the RM2.6 billion that went into Najib's private accounts.

With the NSC bill we have now turned into a North Korea and the BN MPs, including those from Sabah and Sarawak, are to be fully blamed if the country goes down the drain.

How can they hand a draconian law over to Najib?

Senyum Kambeng: The ramifications of this self-serving NSC Act are huge but with the exception of a few elites outside the government, most Malaysians don't care.

Unless the people wise up, which is a big ask, they will have to put up with more 1MDBs, race-baiting, human right abuses, etc.

The fragmented rakyat has never been allowed to become one, as true Malaysians. The authoritarianism will now be transformed into a dictatorship.

Najib has shown time and again that he will stop at nothing to stay in power. This is another step into the nether world.

Fairplayer: Obviously someone is desperate...
