SG BESAR POLLS Parti Amanah Negara today insisted that the PAS-splinter has as much right as the Islamist party to make promises on behalf of the Selangor state government.

Amanah communications director Khalid Samad pointed out that this was because his party belongs to the Pakatan Harapan coalition that forms a majority in the current Selangor state government.

"PAS only has 13 assemblypersons. The Selangor government is dominated by 29 Pakatan Harapan assemblypersons.

"Clearly 29 is more than 13 so we have all the right to talk on behalf of the Selangor government," Khalid said at a press conference at Amanah's operation centre in Sungai Besar.

Khalid said this when asked for response to PAS Selangor commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad who had said that Amanah is not officially represented in the Selangor government and as such, should not make false promises in Sungai Besar.

"I am quite puzzled why the issue (of representation) was raised by Iskandar because if whatever we said is not true, surely it would have been corrected by the menteri besar or state executive council," the Shah Alam MP said.

Amanah was formed in September last year by a group of PAS leaders who were ousted from their positions at the last party polls, following a rift between the ulama and professional factions.

It has two assemblypersons in the 56-seat Selangor state legislative assembly.

The current PKR-led Selangor state government also comprises PAS and DAP as part of the former Pakatan Rakyat federal opposition pact.

In Sungai Besar, PAS had said the party's portfolios in the state government is testimony to its capabilities to serve the people.

At the press conference, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar also said that postal and early votes had contributed to BN'S victory in 30 parliamentary seats, including Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar (in 2013).

"In 2013, BN won 50.5 percent of the total votes at Sungai Besar. The proportion of ordinary voters, however, only amounted to 49.2 percent.

"On the other hand, among the early and postal voters, an overwhelming 75.1 percent of votes showed support for the BN candidate," she said, adding that it contributed 1.4 percent to BN's total votes.

BN had defended Sungai Besar against PAS for the third term with 399-vote majority.

The seat fell vacant after the death of its incumbent Noriah Kasnon in a helicopter crash in Sarawak.

Early voting will be held tomorrow and polling day is on June 18
