Amanah continues to attack BN for the lack of posters depicting Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak during the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections.

This is despite BN's explanation that it is not going all out with posters this time to avoid wastage, especially in the holy month of Ramadan.

However, for Amanah, the lack of Najib posters actually show that the premier is a liability for BN.

"We can see through the journey from the more rural areas to town, there is no poster of Najib at all. This means BN admits that putting up pictures of Najib can reduce its vote count," Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub told Malaysiakini.

He said this was different compared to BN's campaigns under previous prime ministers.

"The (previous) PM's pictures were displayed with the candidate, to give the campaign a boost," he said.

Salahuddin said perhaps putting up Najib's picture now would only remind the electorate of controversies dogging the prime minister and the country.

"They purposely chose not to put up Najib's face because when people see his face, people see 1MDB, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the RM2.6 billion donation issue.

"So, Najib is a liability to BN to the extent that he can't add value to the candidate," he said.

The Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections were triggered following the deaths of incumbents Wan Mohammad Khair-il Annuar Wan Ahmad (Kuala Kangsar) and Noriah Kasnon (Sungai Besar) in a helicopter crash during the Sarawak election campaign last month.

Polling day falls on June 18.
