YOURSAY | Why spend rakyat's money when they claimed to have RM2.6b?

Raja Bahrin: Najib and family living larger than kings

Boonpou: I salute you, Terengganu prince Raja Bahrin Shah, for speaking out. We need more royals like yourself to do that.

The ‘First Lady’s’ super lavish lifestyle as well as the 1MDB scandal only implied an allegory for the impunity that has defined Malaysia in recent years.

I cannot even laugh when I watched the recent video by Rafizi Ramli (of PM’s wife Rosmah Mansor going on board a chartered private jet). How many bags are there and what are in them?

Spinnot: Yes, why spend the rakyat's money when they claimed to have received donations of hundreds of million in US dollars from the Arabs?

Anonymous 706151436780066: The Agong and the sultans could have summoned such leaders to the palace to express their displeasure, but they have not done so.

So Umno leaders who thought that the royalties were beholden to them became emboldened and did as they please, together with the full support of the voters who were also misled into electing them.

All Malaysians are now paying the price of such excesses.

HaveAGreatDay: Thank you, Raja Bahrin, you have said it all. Sadly, these Umnoputras think the government's money is their money.

Kingfisher: The outcry by Raja Bahrin is understandable.

It appears that in recent times, a few select leaders have claimed the prerogative to ‘write’ their own rules for their conduct unfettered by any constraints - individual, institutional and legal.

Pemerhati: In Sarawak, you have the simple and poorly educated rural people who continue to support the party whose leaders like former CM Abdul Taib Mahmud have allegedly stolen billions.

In Malaysia, we have a similar situation where the relatively poorly educated and simple rural population continues to support the highly corrupt and kleptocratic Umno leaders who have allegedly stolen tens of billions of their money.

The reason for their support is that these people are not suffering and over the years have seen small incremental improvement in their standard of living.

They also get influenced by the constant propaganda of BN’s monopolised media and the opposition’s views do not always reach them, and even if they sometimes do, they are not all that outraged as they do not realise how much better off they would be if the billions were not stolen.

As a result of massive gerrymandering by BN, these rural people decide which party wins the elections as the electorate in the many rural seats is many times smaller than that in the urban seats.

RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: The problem is that Malays do not see what Raja Bahrin sees.

It’s time for the Malays to realise that PM Najib Razak does not practise what he preaches.

While he might ask the people to sacrifice for the nation, he has no means to ask his wife to do so, resulting in she indulging in ridiculous extravagance like chartering a private jet.

Dr Suresh Kumar: Only the Malay community can put a stop to this. Please rise, think of the future of your children and grandchildren. This is a grave sin against mankind.

Light: Decent Malays are aplenty; all they need to do is to wake up from their stupor. Self-serving, insipid followers will never get an inspiring, honest and trustworthy leader.

In order to have one, one must be prepared to change.

SimonTi: The Marcos family was transported by US Air Force C-130 plane to Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii where Marcos arrived on Feb 26, 1986.

It was reported that when Marcos fled, US Customs agents discovered 24 suitcases of gold bricks and diamond jewellery hidden in diaper bags.

Moreover, certificates for gold bullion valued in the billions of dollars were allegedly among the personal properties he, his family, his cronies and business partners surreptitiously took with them when the US provided them safe passage to Hawaii.

When the presidential mansion was seized, it was famously discovered that Imelda had over 2,700 pairs of shoes in her closet.

Bloodymary: This is the real definition of obscenity - to be so totally indifferent and insensitive to the suffering of others, and to exalt oneself above all else - at public expense!

Ash Burn: We are finished. Idiotic politics, fools in government, a weak and corrupt administration, a general populace who are blind or care less that even the soft voice of dissent is gone. Corruption and greed have won.

Anonymous_1408265047: At last someone from royalty has spoken up about the abuses going on in this country. Now all we need is for the leaders of Islam in Malaysia to do the same.
