Mahathir's era in Proton is over, Najib declares
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today declared there will be no more political interference in Proton, like when former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the carmaker's adviser.
He said Mahathir's era was over and Proton must learn from past mistakes to succeed.
"I am happy to say that there had been marked changes in Proton's administration. There will no longer be political interference like during the Mahathir administration.

He said Mahathir's era was over and Proton must learn from past mistakes to succeed.
"Now, I am pleased to say, there have been significant changes at the top levels of Proton. Tun Mahathir’s era of political interference has come to an end.
"Now it is time for lessons to be learned, and for serious measures and reforms to be put in place for the company to get back on track, and realise its potential once again," he said.
He said this when launching the fourth generation Proton Perdana at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre this morning.
The new Proton Perdana will be marketed in the D segment, and comes in the 2.0 and 2.4 variants, which cost RM113,888 and RM138,888 respectively.
