The late Karpal Singh's former driver, C Selvam, has been acquitted today by the Kampar magistrate's court with reckless endangerment causing the death of the DAP stalwart two years ago.

Magistrate Mohamad Ibrahim Mohamad Ghulam was reported in The Star Online as saying that the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against Selvam, an Indian national.

Selvam, 29, when met outside court said he is extremely relieved with the verdict and that his problems were now over.

“I feel good. I’m very happy to be going home to see my family,” he said, breaking down in tears.

“I want to go home as soon as I can,” he said.

Selvam then thanked his lawyer Baljit Singh for taking the case pro bono, and Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Huan Cheng Guan who had posted his bail and sheltered him over the past two years.

He however, kept quiet when asked if he had any words for Karpal's family.

Selvam was charged with reckless endangerment while driving a vehicle with the registration number KS9898 at KM306.1 of the northbound lane of the North-South Expressway at about 12.40am on April 17, 2014.

The accident with a lorry caused Karpal who was Bukit Gelugor MP, and his aide Michael Cornelius their death.
