A pro-Umno portal has noted how the ruling coalition is often accused of attempting to bribe voters during elections.

However, MyKMU.net claimed the opposition could be accused of doing the same under the pretext of holding projects for the people.

Zooming in on the campaign for the Sungai Besar parliament seat, the portal listed several examples, which were:

  • free engine oil for motorcycles distributed by Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and PKR;
  • selling sugar without GST by PAS;
  •  free sawi vegetables offered by DAP and Amamah;
  • free bus service for the residents by PKR;
  • free car wash by Amanah; and
  • bubur lambuk (porridge) by Amanah, PAS and PKR.

As for the sale of sugar, MyKMU pointed out that GST (goods and services tax) did not apply for this item.

Apart from this, the portal also noted how the opposition organised dinners and lucky draws almost on a daily basis at restaurants purportedly owned by its supporters.

“Whether it is owned by supporters (who sponsored these events) or paid for (by the opposition)...

“In a nutshell, where did these resources come from? This is what needs to be investigated, whether this violated election rules,” it said.

Among others, the portal also reproduced a poster with an image of Amanah candidate Azhar Abdul Shukor.

The poster invited residents to catch the Euro 2016 match between Italy and Belgium at a local restaurant and participate in a lucky draw and stand to win football jerseys and helmets.

Azhar is up against BN’s Budiman Mohd Zohdi and PAS’ Dr Abdul Rani Osman in the June 18 by-election.

The seat fell vacant after its incumbent Noriah Kason was killed in a recent helicopter crash.
