SG BESAR POLLS Umno veteran Shukur Siraj is delighted that his son in Amanah, Azhar, is contesting for the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat, and wants him to take down PAS.

"I'm glad he's contesting. (He can) cut off PAS' head," Shukur quipped while having a chat with Opposition Leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The bed-ridden 81-year-old was more lively today compared to when former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad visited him on Saturday.

During his conversation with Wan Azizah, Shukur said PAS did not understand that it cannot make it without DAP or PKR.

He also noted that politics today was celaru (messy).

Shukur thanked Wan Azizah for supporting his son in the campaign.

Azhar had previously said that his father fully supported his decision to contest despite still being an Umno man.

In his prime, Shukur had served as a one-term Tanjong Karang MP and a two-term Sungai Burung assemblyperson.
