SG BESAR POLLS A pro-Barisan Nasional NGO coalition and Umno Grassroots Movement (GAUM) yesterday lodged a police report against former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his allegation that Umno members can be bought.

Its president, Zulkarnain Mahdar, said such an allegation was a disgusting and evil act as Umno members were only showing their undivided support for the party.

“How can he say that? We are only expressing our loyalty to our party but we are said to have been bought,” he told reporters when met at the Sungai Besar police station.

Zulkarnain said he felt insulted by what Dr Mahathir said in his blog entry, entitled 'Freedom of Speech', dated June 7.

He also criticised Dr Mahathir’s allegation that those who did not sign the ‘Mahathir Declaration’ would lose the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) benefit, scholarships, business opportunities and other privileges.

“This is slander and an untruth... just because we do not want to sign his declaration,” he said.

Zulkarnain said he filed a police report so as to enable the relevant authorities to take action against Dr Mahathir, and that he would file a libel suit.
