The Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections have revealed that the people are sick of the opposition and their antics, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said.

The Umno lawmaker also criticised PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli for criticising voters for the opposition’s defeat in the twin polls.

Azalina said that in Parliament, opposition MPs never championed issues related to their constituencies.

“The issues they raise are irrelevant and more towards personal attacks. So I believe the people are sick of the opposition,” she was quoted as saying in Umno Online.

As for Rafizi, the minister said BN never questioned or ridiculed the people’s choice when the opposition won in Kelantan, Penang and Selangor in the last general election.

“In fact, we gave our commitment to work together because that is the people’s choice,”she added.

Azalina said the by-elections were the people’s signal to BN to continue providing service to voters in the two seats.

Apart from this, she said the results also showed that BN remained relevant to the people.

In Sungai Besar, BN candidate Budiman Mohd Zohdi garnered 16,800 votes and won the seat with a 9,191 majority.

Whereas in Kuala Kangsar, BN candidate Mastura Mohd Yazid received 12,653 votes with a majority of 6,969 votes.

The results also served as a boost for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who has been hit with numerous allegations.

The prime minister has denied any wrongdoing, and blamed the accusations on former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and those conspiring to topple him from power.
