'Please help this child, her father has died'
A baby girl abandoned by the roadside of an oil palm estate in Jerantut, Pahang, with nothing but a photograph, RM15, and a note, was rescued by a farmer two nights ago.
According to a Sinar Harian report, Jerantut police chief Azid Ismail said the farmer was on his way back home from work at 8pm on Sunday when he suddenly heard the sound of a baby crying.
Azid said the farmer then discovered the baby, wrapped in cloth, on the roadside.
In the bundle with the baby was a note, written on a piece of cardboard which read "Please help this child, her father has died. I am Nuer Aini".
There was also a photo of a man, believed to be the girl's father.
The farmer then brought the baby home, before lodging a police report the next day and surrendering her to the authorities.
"A medical inspection found that the baby is a girl, fully developed, and less than a month old.
"There were scratches on her chest believed to be caused by her own fingernails," Azid said.
The baby is being warded at the Jerantut Hospital for further observations, and the Social Welfare Department has been notified.
