Using another name for KLIA2, the official brand of KL International Airport 2, violates aviation laws, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) managing director Badlisham Ghazali said today.

He said the campaign carried out by low-cost carrier AirAsia to brand KLIA2 as LCCT2, goes against International Air Transport Association (IATA) and International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations.

"We cannot name a terminal on a whim and fancy as it is a registered name, and it was the government that named it KLIA2, not MAHB.

"However, we cannot prevent AirAsia from calling it LCCT2 as it has freedom of speech, but it cannot put it on its tickets or counter notice board," Badlisham told reporters after accompanying 108 children of deserving tithe recipients from Sepang, for Aidilfitri shopping at the Alamanda Mall in Putrajaya yesterday.

On complaints about cracks on the runway and pools on the tarmac, Badlisham admitted that the problems persisted until today.

"However the damage has been reduced and we are still doing repairs," he said.

Commenting on the development plan for KLIA2, he said the terminal was built following discussions with stakeholders such as AirAsia, just like the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) before.

"Changi Airport in Singapore and the Don Muaeng in Bangkok also have budget airline terminals, but they do not call them low-cost terminals. They named them as terminals 1, 2 and 3," Badlisham added.
