The chairperson of an anti-crime non-government organisation (NGO) was reportedly arrested last night after allegedly receiving cash from an illegal gambling operator.

The individual, said to be a datuk in his 30s, was arrested by a team from Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department at 10.50pm at the Nilai toll plaza, News Straits Times today reported.

It was reported that prior to his arrest, the man had met with the gambling operator, who later went to the police.

The gambling operator was supposedly fed up over being constantly extorted by the man over his activities - allegedly for RM25,000 a month.

The gambling operator also allegedly possesses audio recordings of the man threatening the former to "play ball" if he did not want his activities to be exposed to the media or the police.

Federal CID chief Mohmad Salleh reportedly confirmed the arrest of the man, who was not named in the report.
