Ikea has urged customers who have a Patrull safety gate and extension, Patrull Klamma safety gate and extension, and Patrull Fast safety gate to immediately stop using it and to bring it back to any Ikea store for a full refund.

In a statement, Ikea Malaysia said while there were no incidents of injury reported in Malaysia, it had received customer reports whereby the Patrull safety gates opened unexpectedly and children falling down stairs, with some incidents requiring medical attention.

A third party investigation has shown that the locking mechanism is not reliable, posing a risk to small children despite approved tests to applicable standards.

A receipt is not required for a full refund, Ikea said.
