BN needs to carry out constituency mapping activity to really find out and ascertain what the voters really want if the party wished to win big in the 14th general election (GE14), according to National Professors' Council (MPN) deputy chairperson Shamsul Amri Baharuddin.

He said apart from the candidate's factors, the constituency mapping activity would also help the party to plan its strategies to meet the people's demands and requirements.

"So far, BN has yet to do any constituency mapping to find out what the voters in each contested constituency really want. BN should bear in mind that what the voters want may differ according to their constituencies."

He said this to reporters after attending the Roundtable Discussion: Transformation of Malaysian Voters Towards GE14, in Putrajaya today.

The discussion, which lasted over three hours, was also participated by MPN chief executive officer Prof Raduan Che Rose and deputy head of Political, Security and International Affairs Cluster Prof Jayum Jawan.

Shamsul Amri said according to his observation, the constituency mapping method had been practised, either consciously or not, at the recently-concluded Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar parliamentary by-elections, in which the party recorded major and extraordinary victories.

Although BN victories in both by-elections were linked to the crisis in the opposition pact, the success was made possible through the party's ability to identify and meet the people's demands and requirements, such as in agriculture, fishery and road links, he said.

"In Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar, we saw that BN was capable of doing the constituency mapping, but whether it can be done at each constituency is the next big challenge," he said.

Meanwhile, Raduan said BN victories at the two by-elections, as well as in the Sarawak state election last month, had given a new breath for the ruling party to create a bigger success story in the GE14.

"If the politics of people's champion were put into practice, the two-third majority win can be achieved by the BN because at the end of the day, the voters will think about what politics can do for them," he said.
