Angkasa targets 600 syariah-compliant credit cooperatives by 2020
Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) targets more than 600 credit cooperatives nationwide to be syariah-compliant by 2020, said its president Abdul Fattah Abdullah.
He said about 100 cooperatives had implemented the syariah-compliant policy so far.
"The move is to meet the needs of customers, the majority of whom are Muslims, as well as to improve the country's economy," he told Bernama after receiving corporate contributions for Angkasa Infaq Lil Waqf scheme and assistance for single mothers and orphans in Petaling Jaya last night.
In the meantime, he also hoped that the government would recognise the syariah-compliant certificates issued by Angkasa.
For that purpose, he said Angkasa was in the midst of holding discussions with Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) to obtain ISO certification.
