Drugs worth RM121.1m seized, more than 90,000 arrested

The Royal Malaysian Police have detained 94,927 people linked to drug trafficking syndicates, with total drug seizures estimated at RM121.1 million between Jan 1 and June 14 this year.

Bukit Aman Narcotics CID director Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said today of the total, 90,674 were locals while the rest were foreigners.

Mokhtar said the suspects were not only involved in drug trafficking and drug processing but were also heavily armed with an assortment of firearms.

He said among the firearms seized were 24 semi-automatic pistols, which were mostly used by drug syndicates.

He said the police also seized synthetic drugs, namely syabu, weighing 267.72kg; ketamine (52.91kg); and an assortment of erimin, yaba and ecstasy pills.

Mokhtar said the police had also confiscated assets of drug traffickers, estimated at RM55.7 million.
