‘Ex-DPM’s plan to set up new party will have no impact on Umno’

Muhyiddin Yassin’s plan to continue his political struggle by joining another party or setting up a new party will have no impact on Umno, said former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

“The support for Umno is still strong,” he told reporters when met at a breaking the fast organised by the Federation of Peninsula Malaysia Malay Students Association (GPMS) in Kuala Lumpur last night.

Also present was Higher Education Minister and GPMS adviser Idris Jusoh and GPMS president Zambri Mohd Isa.

On Sunday, Muhyiddin, in a media conference with Mukhriz Mahathir, stated their intention to continue their political struggle via a new political platform.

However, both of them did not state in detail concerning the new platform, whether to join another political party or to set up a new political party.

Asked about Muhyiddin’s claim that he was loyal to Umno, Abdullah said: “If he is good, he will still be in Umno.”

The Umno supreme council on Friday sacked deputy president Muhyiddin and former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz for indiscipline and for being on the same stage with opposition leaders to attack the Umno leadership.
